Listeria Outbreak Deli Meats

CDC Warns of Deadly Listeria Outbreak Linked to Deli Meats

Two deaths reported, over two dozen sickened in multistate outbreak

Deli counter meats under investigation as source of outbreak

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a warning Friday about a deadly multistate listeria outbreak connected to deli meats. At least two people have died and more than two dozen others have been sickened in the outbreak.

Investigators are collecting information to determine if the deli counter meats are the source of the outbreak. Many people in this outbreak are reporting eating meats that they had sliced at deli counters.

The CDC recommends that people at higher risk for listeriosis, such as pregnant women and people with weakened immune systems, avoid eating meats sliced at the deli or heat them to an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit before eating.
