Electric Vehicle Battery Recycling Canada

Ontario, Canada to Boost Electric Vehicle Battery Recycling with Li-Cycle Partnership

The Province's EV Ambitions Drive Sustainability Innovation

Reusing and Recycling Lithium-Ion Batteries for a Greener Future

Ontario, with over 400,000 electric vehicles on its roads, is poised to strengthen its commitment to sustainability by investing in battery recycling. The province's partnership with EV battery recycler Li-Cycle marks a significant step towards ensuring the responsible management of lithium-ion batteries used in electric cars.

Electric vehicles, with their compact battery modules, are the driving force behind Canada's transition to a greener transportation system. At the end of their lifespan, these batteries can be effectively reused or recycled. Li-Cycle, an Ontario-based company, is at the forefront of this effort, working with vehicle-sharing company Helbiz to recycle used batteries.

As part of a series on Canada's national EV battery supply chain, experts highlight the importance of this partnership. Toronto's Li-Cycle, with its cutting-edge recycling facility in Kingston, is recognized as one of the top three battery recycling companies in the world.

Ontario's substantial investments in electric vehicles have sparked a national conversation about the environmental impact of battery production and disposal. By embracing innovative recycling solutions, the province is setting an example for responsible and sustainable EV adoption.
